Euphorbia tirucalli is the name of the pant from the habitat Maasai community around this region which means Manyara in Swahil language the National language of Tanzania. However the park derived its name from this plant.
Lake Manyara National Park is located 126 km (80 miles) west of Arusha along a tarmac road to the ethnically diverse market town of Mto wa Mbu, covering 330 sq.Km (about 127sq miles), of which about 200 sq.Km is Lake when water levels are high. The park is located between the 600 m escarpment of the Great Rift Valley and Lake Manyara.
Birdlife: The park hosts over 400 species both migrant and resident including thousand of red billed quelled flitting over the water like swarms of giant insects: pelicans, cormorants and pink streaks of thousand of flamingo on their perpetual migration.
Wildlife: Just on the entrance gate Manyara herbs of baboons, blue monkey and other spices of Monkeys will welcome you. A block of surprisingly varied vegetation sustain a wealth of wildlife, nourished by chartering Streams bubbling out of the escarpment base and waterfalls spilling at the Southern end of the park are hot sulphur springs called Maji Moto, further a long the forest opens up into woodlands, grassland, Swamps, and beyond the soda lake itself.
